My inspiration in the 'Crystalline Book' book set lies in our tendency to imbue objects with emotion and meaning beyond their original intent or characteristics, just as crystals and minerals have been assigned additional properties for millennia.

Especially when left unread, books and magazines are more like inert sculptures than literary implement. I work to create objects that limit the original function of texts while highlighting other functions that they serve. The act as reminders of whom we are and want to be, especially in association to one another. As this series of sculptures consists of memorial objects to the text contained, color has been a way for me to change the tone from mourning or solemn reflection to one of celebration and honoring the achievement of the written word.
